future boop

future boop, is a new-music duo comprised of Memphis Symphony Orchestra and freelancing flutist Delara Hashemi and critically-acclaimed tenor saxophonist Adam Larson. Known widely for their roles in the classical and jazz world’s, respectively, each musician’s refreshing sensibility to the sonic possibilities of their unique instrumentation provide the perfect context for making sounds together. Hailed as a “prolific composer” by Downbeat Magazine, Larson leans on his affinity for genre-blending sounds, motifs and ear-candy in his compositions, making the liquid gold tone of Hashemi’s flute the perfect counterpoint to Larson’s brazenly-assertive jazz saxophone tone. future boop members have held teaching positions at UMKC Conservatory, Visible College of Music, Kansas City Art Institute, University of Memphis, Memphis Music Initiative and the University of Kansas and retain degrees from The Manhattan School of Music, University of Central Oklahoma and The University of Memphis. Having won several grants individually from organizations such as South Arts, Koch Cultural Trust and YoungArts, future boop looks towards the future with hopes of touring their unique variant of contemporary classical duo music at institutions and venues across the greater United States in 2025-2026.

At the request of Hashemi, Larson composed the duo’s first two-movement original work for its’ premiere at the Mid-South Flute Festival. Inspired by car rides across the country listening to guilty-pleasure-ridden pop music, long walks on the beach (or the Mississippi River, reader choose your own journey), and lots of coffee.
